Police Arrest Two Over Killing Of Security Operatives In Lafia The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested one Corporal Haruna Joseph, a driver attached to the state’s Special Task Force, Operation Nasara for allegedly being a member of the Ombatse Militia group that killed several security agents in the state in the early hours of Wednesday. The suspect who was arrested along with his brother is said to have survived the attack on the security agents as he had a special red sticker placed in front of his Hilux Van which enabled the villagers to identify and spare him. The suspect who was arrested while driving his official Hilux Van with the sticker attached to the front bumper of his van was presented to Governor Umaru Al-Makura before being whisked away to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.

Nasarawa Govt. Compensates Families Of Slain Security  Nasarawa State governor Umaru Al-Makura has announced the immediate release of one million naira  each  to the families of security agents who were ambushed and killed on Wednesday by Ombatse militia group in Alakyo area of Lafia East local government area. Governor Al-Makura also announced a donation of three million naira to the family of the slain Assistant Commissioner of Police and pledged the support of the state government in settling the medical bills of those who were injured in the attack. The governor announced this in Lafia shortly after meeting with some widows of the affected security officers. Some aggrieved widows have however blocked the Nasarawa highway leading into the state capital as they demanded the release of the corpses of their loved ones.

Jonathan attends RCCG 2012 Holy Ghost congress Y ears after his first visit, President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday night worshiped with thousands at the 15th edition of the Holy Ghost Congress organized by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, at the Redemption Camp, along the Lagos Ibadan expressway. Speaking at the programme, Dr Jonathan once again assured Nigerians of tackling the challenges facing the country, explaining that his administration is doing the right thing to improve on the challenges that the country currently is facing. In his address to the congregation, the president admitted that the nation’s power sector and security are not impressive as they are, but he gave the assurance that his administration is putting the right structures in place to enhance an appropriate reform. The President also made it known that he is committed to changing things as he ensured that the country is safe for everyone.

Kenyan Big Brother contestant Prezzo has dismissed allegations that his Nigerian Sweetheart and former housemate Goldie is not talking to him. According to the news making rounds especially in Nigerian gossip websites is that Prezzo even called a press conference trying to reach out to Goldie to pick up his calls. "Those are false allegation by people cooking up stories and even quoting me just to get hits on their websites. Goldie and I are fine and we spent time together while I was in Nigeria. Although we will take things slowly,"Prezzo told Word Is. Prezzo described his visit to Nigeria as amazing saying that he had the best reception from his fans there. "I made some contacts and there good things in the works although it's too early to reveal,"said the recently appointed One campaign ambassador. As part of his status as the Ambassador, he will attend and perform at a Jay-Z concert later in August.

Nigeria: N5,000 Note - 'Only Jonathan Can Stop Sanusi'

The president of the Nigerian Economic Society, Prof Akin Iwayemi, has said that until the Central Bank of Nigeria Act is amended, only a presidential directive can stop the apex bank from going ahead with the proposal to introduce N5,000 denomination into the economy next year. CBN indicated recently that it actually got the presidential directive, just as the Senate summoned the governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi for clarification on the issue. He observed that the law establishing CBN empowered it to undertake currency restructuring, in addition to issuance and management of the legal tender. On whether the Senate overstepped its bounds, Iwayemi said, "the National Assembly has prerogative to make statements on their mandate. So, I cannot comment on that, but the CBN Act gives it the mandate that covers even this currency re-denomination except the Presidency stops it." P resident Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, ordered power minister Prof Barth Nnaji, to resign following an alleged involvement of two companies linked to him in the ongoing privatisation exercise in the power sector. L EADERSHIP gathered that the president might have been embarrassed by media reports that the National Council on Privatisation (NCP) had to cancel the technical bid evaluation process conducted for Afam Generation Company Limited and Enugu Distribution Company Limited because of the minister's perceived personal interest and suspicion of lack of integrity. T he president's decision to sacrifice Nnaji might not be unconnected with the fact that he considered the ministry too sensitive to the transformation agenda and could not tolerate any rumour of unethical behavior.
