Nigeria: 300 Trafficked Children Rescued in Kogi State It  saddens me to see stories like these in the news. Poverty has no pity on children, slaves in their own generation,  what leaders would they become later in life? Recently, In Lokoja — More than 300 children from Benue State have been rescued from human traffickers by the Quick Response Group Team (QRP) of Nigeria Army along Itobe-Ajaokuta and Okene road. P arading th e children in Lokoja at the Weekend, Major General Alphonsus Chukwu told journalists that the vehicles transporting the children was intercepted along Itope - Ajaokuta - Lagos road by the Quick Response Group (QRG) of his command during a stop and search operation. He  said the children, who are between ages 3,10 and 15, and both male and female were heading to Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti for holiday jobs, saying that they were however not coherent in their explanations. Abacha family loses bid to recover $800m loot from FG Abba Abacha, son of late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha The family and 19 close associates of the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, have lost their bid to recover $800 million seized by the Federal Government. The fund, allegedly looted by Abacha’s family, was recovered by the General Abdulsalami Abubakar – led government. The family and 19 companies owned by the family had gone to the appellate court seeking to upturn the decision of the Federal High Court Abuja, which dismissed their suit, challenging the constitutionality of the letters written by the Federal Government to governments of some foreign countries. Justice Suleiman Galadima, who delivered the lead judgment recently at the Supreme Court, threw out the appeal saying it is incompetent and lacking in merit. Accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway kills one

female pedestrian was crushed to death on Thursday morning by a container that fell from a moving trailer, at the Berger area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway . The trailer was heading out of Lagos around 7a.m when it lost one of its tyres, making the driver to lose control of the truck. As he struggled to regain control of the truck, it tipped over to its right side. As the truck fell, it landed on the woman, who was walking beside the road, in search of a commercial bus to her destination. The unnamed woman died instantly while a gridlock formed on the outbound Lagos side of the busy expressway for hours. Traffic officials are currently at the scene trying to lift the truck and its container with a crane back on the trailer’s tyres.

Arraignment of subsidy fraud suspects begins A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja on Thursday arraigned one of the oil subsidy fraud suspects, Abdulai Alao, who is the son of Arisekola-Alao, an Ibadan politician. Mr Alao was arraigned along with his company Axenergy by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 7 count of fraud. The EFCC alleged that the suspect obtained the sum of two billion, six hundred and forty million naira (N2, 640, 000.00) being payments received from the Petroleum Support Fund for the purported importation of 33.3million litres of Premium Motor Spirit. Counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi Jacobs proceeded with the arraignment after apologising to the court for the absence of the attorney general and Minister of justice, Mohammed Adoke Bello who failed to show up again after citing “pressing state matters” requiring his attention.
